A Broken Tooth Often Requires Extraction so It Can Be Restored by a Dental Implant

A hard blow to the face can sometimes crack or fracture a tooth severely. In an extreme case, the damage might be so extensive that Isle Smile’s dentists simply cannot save the tooth by any effective treatment means. When this happens, we often have no choice but to extract the tooth, so it can later be restored by a crown mounted to a dental implant.

Before installing the implant it’s important to assess the remaining bone structure in that part of your mouth. Sometimes a total tooth extraction also compromises some of the surrounding bone. If this is the case, you might need to receive a bone graft in advance of mounting the dental implant.

To install the titanium abutment, an oral surgeon will make an incision in your gums. Then a small hole is drilled directly into the bone. The titanium abutment is screwed into place and a temporary crown is cemented over the top to protect it.

In time the titanium implant will integrate with the surrounding bone tissues to create a firm anchor point. Once this has been achieved your Isle Smile dentist can fit you for a crown that will restore the tooth’s presence in your mouth for many years to come.

If you have a cracked, damaged or otherwise broken tooth, you should not hesitate in calling Isle Smile’s clinic in Key West, Florida at 305-293-1660 to have it treated and restored.
